The Albuquerque International Association is pleased to present a lecture by Mark L. Asquino titled Spanish Connections: My Diplomatic Journey from Venezuela to Equatorial Guinea discussing his book of the same name. The book is a memoir about his diplomatic journey to Equatorial Guinea, a small Spanish-speaking country in West Africa. In his talk, he will discuss the many stops along the way that finally led to serving as U.S. Ambassador to Spain’s only former colony in sub-Saharan Africa. His assignment to Equatorial Guinea was the last piece needed to complete a full circle in a professional life that began in Franco’s Spain.
Mark L. Asquino is a retired U.S. Ambassador and President of Global Santa Fe and has served as an American foreign service officer in Spain, Romania, Chile, Sudan, Uzbekistan and a variety of other places around the globe. His memoir Spanish Connections is an insightful and easy-to-read memoir that follows his many travels as a diplomat for the U.S. government, as well as tracing the intersections between his personal life and his job along the way.
