Legacy Endowment (Bequests)
To help build the financial security it needs if it is to continue and expand its programs, the Albuquerque International Association is inviting its members to make the Center for International Studies, its 501(c)3 umbrella organization, the beneficiary of bequests from their estates.
For many people, it is desirable to leave a legacy donation to the organization(s) that enriched their lives. You can contribute a specific dollar amount or asset or contribute a percentage of your estate. A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift be made to AIA as part of your estate plan. Legacy endowments provide an important element of the AIA charitable giving and typically range from $25,000 to over $100,000.
Bequests can be accomplished through a simple codicil, rather than requiring alterations to the member’s will or trust document. The codicil can be easily revoked if a member’s circumstances change and he or she needs the money.
Members interested in discussing how to make the Center for International Studies/Albuquerque International Association part of their legacy or in receiving a simple codicil form are directed to contact us at info@abqinternational.org.
SAMPLE WORDING FOR BEQUEST CONVEYED THROUGH CODICIL OR WILL:
I hereby give, devise and bequeath to the Center for International Studies, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation organized and operating under the laws of the state of New Mexico, located at 7777 Jefferson Ave, NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87109; mailing address PO Box 92921, Albuquerque, NM, 87199; the sum of $_______ (or ______ percent of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate) to be used for the general purposes of the organization.
A bequest can help reduce the size of your taxable estate and also qualify for an estate tax charitable deduction, as well as assisting CFIS-AIA. As with any estate planning, you should consult with an estate planning attorney as to how the above applies to your personal situation.
